Is the collar waterproof?

The collar is IPX7 waterproof rated, which means your dog can go swimming with the collar for 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1m.

What is the maximum range between the collar and the wire?

Maximum activation distance is 1.5-2 meters

What is the ideal operating temperature of the system?

Normally the temperature is -20° to +60° Celsius (-4° to +140° Fahrenheit). In cold weather, the standby time of the collar will shorten.

Can I put the transmitter outside in a waterproof container in cold climates?

You can place the transmitter box outside in a waterproof box. The operating temperature of the Pet Control HQ Electric Dog Fence System is -4°to +140° Fahrenheit (-20° to +60° Celsius). If it is very old weather, the standby time of the collar will shorten. Please also note that if condensation does occur inside the waterproof box, it will eventually cause the transmitter box to stop working as moisture from the condensation gets inside the box and slowly the internal mechanism starts to corrode.

Does the system work in below sub zero conditions?

The system will not work in below zero conditions.

The collar is only shocking the dog when the dog touches the fence, with no warning.

The dial on the transmitter box is set to high. The dial on the transmitter box determines the range between the wire and the collar and at what point the collar will start to emit a tone, vibration, and shock. Please note the dial on the transmitter box has nothing to do with the intensity level of the shock emitted. Please see the table below.

The collar is emitting only a tone sound and isn’t shocking.

If you have the collar set at level 1it will emit a tone only. You need to change the settings on your collar. The collars has 5 increasing levels of shock intensity. Level 1 is tone only and level 2-5 is increasing levels of progressive correction. To change the intensity hold the power button down gently release your finger and the red LED will flash twice to show level 2 if you want to increase to level 3 follow procedure above. The collar cycles between levels 1-5.

The dog is getting shocked everywhere in the safe area

Possible reasons:

• If the boundary layout is less than 80m:
This causes the system to be unstable as the safe area is too small. You can connect the resistor (included in your kit) to your transmitter box to try to stabilise the system. You will need to turn the dial up on the transmitter box if using the resistor.

• If the boundary layout is more than 80m:
There could be underground or overhead electrical cables, or telephone cables which are interfering with the collar. The boundary wire needs to be laid at least 3m away from any underground or overhead electrical wires and telephone cables.

• If your layout is angular:
You cannot have any angles in your layout. All angles need to have a smooth, round radius approximately 1m wide.

Why does my system work in some areas, and not in other areas?

If you are using more than 150m of wire in your layout, the additional wire needs to be the same wire purchased from Pet Control HQ. If you are using wire of a different thickness and composition, this will cause the system to be unstable and could result in the transmitter burning out over time. We will not warranty the transmitter box if you use wire purchased elsewhere.

Please note: The wire needs to be placed at least 3m away from any solid metal objects i.e a metal shed, a solid metal fence, a trailer, etc.

Why is the transmitter box not working?

There are only two reasons the transmitter box would stop working:

1. It may be that the power cord is faulty. Plug the power adaptor into your wall socket and turn the switch on; look at the black plug and see if a green LED light is illuminated. If there is no green LED light being displayed, then it means the power cord is faulty and needs to be replaced. There is nothing wrong with your actual transmitter box.

2. If the green LED light on the black plug is illuminated, then it means that damage has occurred to the transmitter box either caused by a power outage, a power surge, or a lightning strike.

Why is the transmitter box continuously emitting an audible tone/ beeping sound?

Possible reasons:
• There is a break in the wire loop.
Disconnect the cables connected to the terminal points of the transmitter box. Use brand-new, left-over wire and make a small, closed loop (approximately 20m). If the transmitter box stops beeping, then there is a break somewhere along the boundary wire. However, if the transmitter box continues to beep, that means the transmitter box has malfunctioned.

• The transmitter box has malfunctioned.
This is caused by either a power outage, lightning strike, or power surge. The transmitter box will need to be replaced.

• The wires have not been adequately inserted into the terminal points on the transmitter box. Feed more wire into the terminal points to make certain the connection is secure.

What could be making my transmitter box beep?

Your transmitter box will not beep if a closed loop has been detected. Try inserting your wires further to ensure both terminal points have received enough wire. If you box is still beeping, please contact our customer support team.

How do I conduct a short loop test?

1. Disconnect your entire cable loop network from the transmitter box terminal points and connect only a short test loop of leftover new cable, say 20m -30m.

2. Turn the transmitter dial up to 5.

3. Test your collar using the test bulb provided (included in your kit) and walking towards the wire with the collar being turned on and using the test bulb on the metal prongs. You should see the orange test bulb light up when you near the wire, indicating the collar is shocking. Walk away from the wire and then back towards it to see the collar react each time you near the wire. Please note the collar has an auto-protection mode, so if it remains by the wire for longer than 8 seconds, it will stop shocking. Please note that the orange test bulb light may not be seen clearly in broad daylight, so try doing the test at dusk or in a lower light environment.

4. If all works fine on the short loop test, connect your existing loop cable network and do the same tests by testing various loop sections.

5. If the test bulb does not light up, please move the transmitter box to another location and redo the above steps.

When testing the collar activation, how high should I test it?

The collar should be 20cm-30cm above the ground with the metal prongs facing upwards towards the sky. The maximum height we recommend is 50cm above the ground when testing the collar range.

Do I need to bury the boundary wire underground?

There is no need to bury the wire. The wire can be placed above the ground inside a conduit to protect the wire. We recommended using either a garden hose pipe or poly pipe as a conduit. The wire can also be mounted to an existing fence as long as the fence is not made of solid metal sheeting (i.e. colorbond/zinc fence) because it interferes with the signal emitted by the transmitter box. However, you can use a chicken wire mesh fence or barbed wire fence. If a solid metal fence is used, the wire must be placed at least 3m away from the fence. The wire can be placed underground however it needs to be placed between 10cm to 15cm below the ground.

Where should I place the transmitter box?

The transmitter box needs to be placed at least 3m away from any major electrical appliances i.e. refrigerator, air conditioning unit, antenna cable, etc.
You cannot place the transmitter box directly on metal like a metal shed, as metal insulates the signal emitted from the box. You need to have a barrier between the transmitter box and the metal shed. We recommend using at least a 10cm wooden block and placing the transmitter box on the wood, and mounting the wood on the metal shed (sandwich effect). The wood will insulate the transmitter box.

Please note: The transmitter box is an electrical device and needs to be placed indoors or under cover, away from any of the outside elements.

Why is the collar battery not lasting long?

Try resetting the collar battery (. You can remove the case of the collar by unscrewing the 4 screws. We recommend doing this over a bowl as the screws are very small and you don’t want them to go missing. Remove the case and you will notice a battery. Do not remove the battery. You will notice a red and black wire attached to the battery. Follow your fingers along the wire until you get to a white clip near the middle. Unclip the wire from the collar. Leave it unclipped for 10 seconds and then reclip it. Place the case back on the collar and re-screw it. Turn the collar on and see if that resolved the issue.

Note: The collar battery lasts between 24-72 hours in dual mode depending on usage (dog fence and remote dog training mode) and can last up to 7 days in single mode (dog fence function mode only). We recommend if you are going to be away from home and not using the remote dog trainer then you should have your collar set in single mode to prolong the battery life.

Is it better to keep the collar turned on or off when charging it?

It is better to turn the collar off when charging it.

The rubber dust protector that covers the USB charging port on my collar isn't staying flush. Will this affect the waterproofing of my collar?

The rubber dust protector has nothing to do with the waterproofing of the collar but it is there to protect the USB charger port from exposure to any dust.

What are the different modes on the collar?

There is a tone, vibration, and shock mode.

• Your pet's collar has 2 warning alerts for their safety, a TONE & VIBRATION warning, then a progressively increasing STATIC ONLY correction.

• Your pet's collar automatically decides the correction level based upon A) boundary width & B) the speed your pet is moving into/through its boundary.

• Your pet's collar is designed to avoid giving static correction during warning alerts.

• IMPORTANT: Due to individual boundary layouts and factors mentioned above, corrections may not include both TONE & VIBRATION warnings.

• Your pet's collar is designed to emit a high-pitched TONE which is tuned specifically to a level that will get your pet's attention.

• Occasionally, your pet's collar will skip a TONE warning, going directly to a VIBRATION warning. This is normal due to different situational factors such as speed etc.

Please note: A VIBRATION warning is a strong reminder and if consistent, is a stronger deterrent than the TONE warning.

The collar is not responding for both the remote and the fence function, why is this?

Make certain that the metal prongs are securely fastened to the collar. If the prong/s are loose, the collar will not work or emit a shock.

How do I pair the collar to the remote?

Turn on the remote and collar. Please do NOT have them plugged into a charger but containing some charge.
The collar needs to be in an unpaired state. If it is unpaired, then the green light on the collar will flicker and it is ready to be paired. If the green light is not flickering, then it is in a paired state and needs to be unpaired first.

To unpair:
- On the remote, press the bell and lightning bolt buttons at the same time (top right and third from the top right) until the numbers on the screen are running. With the remote antenna near but not touching the collar prongs, press either buttons 1,2 or 3 until a beep or 2 occurs.
- Then press the bell and lightning bolt buttons at the same time (top right and third from the top right) until the numbers on the screen stop running.
- This should unpair the collar and the light on the collar should now be flickering.

To pair:
- Press the ‘plus’ and ‘lightning bolt’ buttons at the same time (top left and third from the top right) until the numbers on the screen are running. With the remote antenna touching the collar next to the green LED light, press either buttons 1,2 or 3 until a beep or 2 occurs.
- Then press the ‘plus’ and ‘lightning’ bolt buttons at the same time (top left and third from the top right) until the numbers on the screen stop running. The collar should now be paired.

To Test:
- Press the button 1,2 or 3 on the remote (whichever you paired the collar to) and then press the vibrate button (second row down on the right). If the collar vibrates, then it is paired.

Why isn’t my collar working with the remote?

In order for your collar to work with your remote, you need to have the collar in dual mode i.e. remote and dog fence mode. The green LED light on the collar must be flashing one green light every 5 seconds. To change your collar from single to dual mode press down on the power button until the green LED light on your collar turns red, then release your finger immediately off the power button. Once you have your collar in dual mode, press the dog selection button i.e. 1, 2, or 3 and then the vibrate button. With the collar in the on position, you will see which dog selection button is paired to your collar. If none of the dog selection collars work with your remote, this means the collar is in an unpaired state. Refer to how to pair the collar to the remote below.

The collar is working with the remote, but it is not working with the fence function. What can I try to rectify this?

Reset the collar battery. To do this, follow these steps.

Remove the case of the collar by unscrewing the 4 screws. We recommend doing this over a bowl as the screws are very small, and you don’t want them to go missing. Remove the case, you will notice a battery. Do not remove the battery. You will notice a red and black wire attached to the battery. Follow your fingers along the wire until you get to a white clip near the middle. Unclip the wire from the collar. Leave it unclipped for 10 seconds and then reclip it. Place the case back on the collar and re-screw it. Turn the collar on and see if that resolved the issue.

If the battery reset doesn’t resolve the issue:
a. The collar has IC component damage. The dog collar has 2 x IC components. One component ‘talks’ to the dog fence and the other IC component ‘talks’ to the remote. If the dog fence system is not working i.e. collar is not emitting a shock for the dog fence function, then the IC component that ‘talks’ to the dog fence has been damaged. Damage occurs if:
· The owner drops the collar several times.
· The dog continuously bangs the receiver against a hard surface i.e. a wall, the ground a fence, a rock, etc. You may wish to contact our support team to organize a replacement.

Why does the collar beep continuously when it is just in remote mode? Is there a way to change that?

You have set the collar up in ‘safe mode’. Safe mode allows your dog to pass through the fence without receiving any shock. The collar will beep 1 time per 1 second. To exit the safe mode, press the minus button and the shock button on the remote control at the same time. The collar will stop beeping and return to normal shock mode.

Should the distance to activate the collar be the same if walking from outside the boundary into the zone, or inside approaching the outside?

The distance the collar triggers should be the same from both sides of the boundary wire, both outside in and inside out.

Why is my collar beeping and vibrating indoors?

The collar may beep or vibrate indoors if your dog stands close to a major electrical appliance. To stop the beeping and vibrating you can try:

1. Turning off your fence transmitter box at the power supply.

2. Testing the receiver collar indoors and seeing if the collar stops beeping and vibrating.

3. Connecting the resistor to the transmitter box (included in your kit). Once you have connected the resistor to the transmitter box, please turn on the fence transmitter box and test the receiving collar indoors to see if there is any random beeping and vibrating.

What is the difference between the deluxe system and the standard system

The Pet Control HQ Deluxe Electric Dog Fence System:

•The system has three automatic levels of progressive correction (i.e. shock).
•The collar is waterproof (IPX7 Rated), so your dog can go swimming with the collar on and the strap is made of robust PU material. Your dog can go swimming for 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1m.
•The system covers up to 10 acres.
•The collar battery is rechargeable.
•The wire used for this system is much thicker than any other wire sold with an electric dog fence and is heavy duty and robust.
• The system is unique. It can be used as a standalone electric dog fence system or a combination electric dog fence system and remote dog training collar. The 1.6mm wire is robust and durable. We only recommend the 1mm wire if you are good with DIY as the 1mm wire can be tricky to work with.

Do you sell wireless systems?

We don't sell wireless dog fence systems as they are very unreliable, and you cannot customize the system to suit your yard. The only shape you can make with a wireless system is a circle, which for most yards isn't practical. You need to install the wire to define the boundary for the dog fence function. However, the remote dog trainer is a wireless system and portable too, so great for off-leash training, a play at the park, neighborhood walks, controlling nuisance behavior and going on vacation too.

Does this system work with a steel pipe/page wire fence?

We would not recommend using the system with steel pipes, as there may be interference with the signal emitted.

Why does the collar only respond when right on top of the boundary wire?

1. Please turn the collar 90 degrees, the same direction your dog would be wearing the collar. Then walk towards the boundary wire.
2. Set the boundary knob to level 5 when testing the collar. Please note if the collar is activated for more than 8 seconds, the fence function will stop automatically. You will need to return to the safe area then back into the out of bounds area.
3. When you start to test the receiver collar, the distance of the collar must be at least 5m-6m away from the boundary wire, to avoid fence signal interference.
4. If it’s still working incorrectly, test the collar from outside of the boundary wire. Check if the fence function works or does not work.

Can the Standard strap be used on the Deluxe Collar?

The Standard strap fits onto the deluxe collar. You will be required to remove the plastic fitting off one end of the strap, feed it through the deluxe collar and then reattach the plastic back on the strap again.

How far apart should the training flags be placed?

The flags should be placed at 1m apart along the boundary zone.

Great outcome

Our two rottweilers used to jump on our six foot gate when other dogs walked past. The collars have been a great success. After one or two shocks, on the lowest setting, they no longer go near the gate. We don't even turn the collars on, because they know when they are wearing them what 'might' happen. Saved my vege patch and my sanity

I have a bull arab that loves digging grubs out of the vege patch..... so naturally the holes are 3 foot deep😣. Despite my best efforts i cant stop the digging & resorted to wire cages. Finally at my wits end i got the collar & fencing. It has worked beautifully, i finally have veges that arent buried in dirt, no landmine holes and sprained ankles🤣. I did have problems working out the set up, but the lovely lady on the helpline sorted, she was so patient.
